Back to the origins with a Pooh Bear

Six miniature shows, last year, too much work, too little sleep, too much things to fix between family, childrens and miniatures and now I really need to slow down.
I want to go "back to the origins" making just things I love to do (isn't that the dream of most people?).
So this time I want to show you something I made that really gave me pleasure (you've probably already spotted it into my banner), a little Pooh Bear ... 15mm tall (approx 0.55"):

... then, looking into my thrift box I found a toadstool made with cold porcelain, and a teapot I crocheted some time ago:

The teapot is really small, just 7mm (approx 0.24") and is crocheted with my wonder 0.4mm hook and sewing thread.
And then .... mumble mumble what little Pooh is making with a teapot, and a toadstool?
A picnic of course!!!
So I added a little cherry pie in a quarter scale, a little gingham towel, some grass, a little box, and ... taaa-daaah:

Micro Cactus Free Crochet Pattern

I'm back! Well to be true it's a week since I am back but I really needed a break.

I had a great time at the Kensington Dollhouse Festival and London is wonderful.

I could only stroll around on Sunday so I saw very few of the city but what I saw was Magnificent!

I will post pictures later because I forgot my camera and let Lory took some pics for me too.

As promised before leaving for UK, here is a free pattern to crochet a miniature cactus.

I put it into a gnome vase made by Roberta of "Le miniature di Eurosia" (if you don't see them in the site, email her). The diameter of the vase is just 10 mm and the cactus is crocheted with Finca #12 and hook #1.0 mm (USA #10 - UK #4).

Just click on the pictures and they will enlarge for a better view.

KDF - Kensington Dollhouse Festival

I've been so busy during these last months preparing new minis for the shows.!
I will be this Saturday at the Kensington Dollhouse Festival in London and this will be my last show for this year (I am so tired!!).
If someone is coming, please stop by my table and say hello I'm always so happy to add a face to a name!
As soon as I'll be back I will post a free crochet pattern to make a micro mini cactus, and if you want to make a special Christmas gift, this is easy to crochet, nice, and superfast to make!!!.
I made some with the little pots that Roberta of "Le Miniature di Eurosia" made for me with tiny gnomes and bears, they are awesome!

Miniature dolls and jointed sock monkeys

I made another batch of little dolls:

and two sock monkeys:

These two little boys are full jointed and movable, the head turns and the limbs move so they can stand or seat. They are able to stand on their own because of the long tail that helps a lot.
The dolls are full jointed too but have no tail LOL!!!
The sock monkeys are still waiting for a good home (they are here) while the little dolls will come with me in Arnhem in October (even if I don't know if I will be able to part with them)!
I am also working on pumpkins and gourds but I will post pictures as soon as I make them a little body!

P.S. which is the right way to write the word sock monkey? Sock Monkey or Sockmonkey?
Suggestions are welcome ....

An Update ...

Life has been so busy during July and now we already are at the end of August, ohh how fast time goes!
As soon as I come back from Paris I received an email from Charlotte saying that I was admitted to the Kensington Dollhouse Festival of December, yeah, now I have to work hard for the next months (I will post later my table number).
I leaved for the sea with the kids on the first half of July and I am lucky enough to be still here.
We hadn't a great time on July, rough sea and cloudy and rainy days, here is a view from our front window:

On August the weather is wonderful even if during these days is too hot (35° C) so we are home till 5 p.m. (making minis - me - and homework - the kids), and at the shore till 8.30 p.m.

On July it was also my birthday and look what I found while I was food shopping on that day:

I also have two heart shaped M&M's (well to be true I only have pictures of them because ... hem ... yes, I am greedy) and a bunch of heart shaped stones.
And last but not least here is what I made (and am making right now):

Dollies!!! I made them with cold porcelain and my wonder hook. They are full jointed and movable, the head turns and the arms and legs move, I think they are funny, aren't they?

A new Fair and some pictures

Next Saturday I will be in Paris for the SIMP, if you want to come and say hello my table (despite what is written in the site) is nr. 11.
I will be there with my "Friend in Fairs" Lory, she's not mentioned on the site but she will share the table with me.
Here is a little preview of what you can see in person:

This little Hello Kitty is just 17 mm tall and full jointed! This means that she can move the arms, legs, and even turn the head!
I also made another little dog (unusual due to its color) veeery small and full jointed too, just 10 mm tall, here it is next to my ruler:

These pictures are for Christine, who guessed what the green spots on the little shelf of my table in Madrid were. Here is the smallest mouse ever:

Embroidery ....

I am leaving for Madrid for the Bishop's Dollhouse Miniature Show and before the take off I wanted to show you my latest works.
I am in the embroidery mood right now so I made a lot of works with my mini needle.
First here are bath towels, they are made like the ones my granny had when she got married, mine are cotton hers were linen (but it was such a trouble to iron them!).

The little stitches are less than 1mm high (yes, I know, it was a challenge!)
And what about samplers? They are cross stitched and hubby made me the frames:

Cactus, Cacti and Succulents

Hellooo, I am very sorry for the long absence but life is just so busy and sometimes my priorities have to lie elsewhere.
But now I'm here and I want to show you something that is making me happy at the moment:

Cactus, cacti and succulents have been my passion since when I was a little child.
I think that I inherited this passion from my granny. She was a very special person and had an extraordinary "green thumb" for all kind of plants and flowers and not only cacti.
She was always my first fan and supporter when I decided to focus on a new hobby and I think that she would have gone crazy for these miniature cacti.
I crocheted them with a 1.0 mm hook (US size #10) and Finca Cotton thread #12, I did not follow a pattern and they are all made free hand.
Next week I will be at the Dollhouse Miniature Show in Arnhem (The Netherlands) and I will bring a lot of them with me.
Not only, as I think they are very easy to make, I decided to make some kits to sell at the show. I just hope the little wooden pots I bought for the kits arrive on time safe and sound here to me.
Hmmmm why it always takes so many time for things to arrive here in Italy? Who knows ...

New Pattern: Baby Sock Monkey

I was asked some time ago to make a miniature baby sock monkey.
I LOOOVE sock monkeys!!
Even if I have never had one I think that they are so funny.
The customer was so happy with her new baby sock monkey, that I thought I could make a pattern out of it.
The one I made was smaaaaaller than the one of the new pattern, but as you know I am insane when I challenge myself in going smaller and smaller.
This one is crocheted with a 0.8mm hook and #12 cotton thread and is very easy to make (or so I suppose).
The worst part of making it was taking pictures!
It's a week since we have fog here and even if outside there's a nice light, taking pictures inside is a nightmare!
Finally here is what I came up with:

This afternoon I decided it was time to clean and tidy up my working table (ok, I know, we will have a snow storm in the next days) and I had fun taking some pictures.
I have a little dollhouse shelf on my table where I put not only the miniatures from other artists that "inspire" me, but also some prototypes of the minis I make that I love most.
Well, everything was clean, there was a nice light coming from outside so I just added a doily, a dime for comparison, some pigs and some bears.

Back from Madrid ...

Here I am, finally!
I really had a lot of fun at the Madrid Fair, knew a lot of people, sold a lot of minis and needless to say bought a lot of minis too!!
Very tiring because the opening hour on Saturday was from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (with a gazillion people) and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
I also had the time to visit the city of Madrid and above all the Prado Museum.
Raffaello, Tiziano, Beato Angelico, Tintoretto, Rubens, Goya, Velazquez, Bosch ..... it was a delight for the eyes and a solace for the soul to see all their masterpieces with my own eyes!

As promised before leaving here are some other pictures of the minis that were with me, the ones that I did not sell at the fair are now in my Etsy shop waiting for Santa that will bring them to their new owners!!

Pumpkins Galore!

Just on time for Halloween here is my Pumpkins Patch:

My friend Lory made me this nice pulltoy and the little mushrooms:

These guys are tall 24 to 30 mm and I made them with a 0.8mm hook and DMC cotton thread.
It all started with a little orange ball that had to be a mini smiling pumpkin, but then I thought "what if I add two legs and arms?".
I was so inspired that I also bought a real pumpkin this morning and cooked "pumpkin ravioli" this evening ... yummy!!

A busy bee

I've been a busy bee this summer, even if when kids are home from school my time for mini making is so few.
I was able to write some new patterns, here is a little baby doll that is small enough (32mm tall) to sleep into a matchbox:

She has movable arms but she's nice even if the arms don't move, isn't she?
A little toadstool boy that I loved to photograph with some toadstools made by my friend Lory (she makes the most wonderful fairy items I've ever seen, take a peek at her shop here).
Hmmm I think that my love for toadstools is becoming an obsession!

Oh and the little snail is made by me too and it's just 8mm tall!
And last but not least a little gnome. I first made it without beard, but gnomes do have beard, don't they? So as I could not decide in which way he was nicer, I made it with a removable beard!

Before and after ... a young gnome and an older one made with the same pattern!
As a busy bee I also made a tutorial on CDHM on how to make a miniature paper butterfly:

Fingertips!

I've been busy making again something that is incredibly tiny.
Here is a micro Eeyore which is JUST 9 mm long from head to tail.
It is 5 ways jointed, the legs and head turn and I swear, I used no Photoshop in these pictures (ha ha, I have a shrinking gun, indeed!)

Next another micro guy, a little pink bear (always 5 ways jointed), 10 mm tall, which is now on Ebay

These two guys are a little bigger, 20 mm tall the first one and 22 mm tall Pooh.

This baby boy (well it looks like a boy for me) is 20 mm tall too and has jointed arms so he'll be able to hug his new mommy. The little diaper is removable (the best thing with dolls is that you can undress them, can't you?) and I also made him a little blanket and a cradle.

He's on Ebay too (come take a peek and say hello).

And last but not least a funny little Raggedy Ann doll 22 mm tall with her blanket. She's on her way to Hong Kong to meet her new mommy. (I still can't believe it ... the first mini Muffa in Hong Kong!!).

Bad bad girl!!

Yeah, I'm really a bad girl for not writing for so long ... but I've been busy!
Look what I made:

I think they can be considered "nano" bears because micro is not enough!
They are just 10mm tall and full jointed.
This means that they can move the head, arms and legs!
I do not use a magnifyier but I think that probably I need new glasses!
Hmmm ... it's not the age (I still feel 25 in my heart) but probably the fact that I work late at night under the light of a lamp! And what about the fact that I'm mad enough to make such mini things?
BTW when I have to relax my eyesight I make mini blankets, mini baskets and mini purses:

... that, of course, I have to fill with something.

The better way to start the New Year

Oh gosh, 2010 is already here, can you believe it??
I hope everyone’s new year is off to a great start!
I tried to start in the best way making something that can be considered "totally insane".
My son is so fascinated by nesting dolls. I often find him playing with a Matrioska doll that my father bought me when I was a child, hiding all kind of stuff into the dolls.
He's a sort of a little pack rat that always finds interesting things (in his opinion) in my studio's trash basket!
So, looking at the littlest Matrioska I decided to make a crocheted one, and she turned out soooo small:

Yeah, that's the top of my finger and the little doll is just 10mm tall (0.39"), I can even breath her! She's made with a 0.4mm hook, that means something as thin as a little pin, and sewing thread.
Needless to say, I had to hide her from my son's little fingers!

Sorry fo not posting but I've been sooo busy during this month!
My son has started his first year of primary school and last Saturday they had the Christmas Bazaar.
So, as a good crafter, and as I wanted him to be proud of his mom, I made a gazillion things for them to sell.
I made patchwork aprons, crocheted bears and amigurumi key chains, not micros of course, or it would have taken too much time to fill just a little table!
I love to work from time to time in "normal size", it's so relaxing!
So, as I was well relaxed I made some micro elves. My elves comes in different shapes and colors but usually they all have funny faces. And then I had a lot of fun taking some weird pictures.
Here they are:

They are made in a quarter scale (1:48) with sewing thread and a 0.5mm hook.
The little toys are made by Cindy and the teapot, cakes and carrots by Lory.

Where have I been?

I was going to write and noticed that my last post was on October, wow, where have I been till now?
We've had the flu (me and the kids) and, as I was asked to make a rooster, I also made a lot of attempts to reach the shape I wanted.
Moreover I'm also involved in the making of Christmas stuff for my son's school bazaar of 12th December, and there are a lot of things to do.

Here are the pictures of the rooster I made:

I made it jointing 10 tiny pieces to reach the height of 16mm and it is even smaller in person!
The feathers of the tail are two different colors and the legs are made of thread too. It was a little tricky to make it stand but with a touch of magic .....
What do you think?

Gnomes!

It's official, I'm a gnome collector!
I read somewhere that when you have three or more of a certain object, you may have begun a collection without knowing it!
So, I did not know but I'm a gnome collector.
I'm still keeping the gnomes I made a few time ago (and they are more than three) and finally I made a pocket baby gnome and wrote down the pattern (available in my Etsy shop).
Usually my little animals come out from my hands as I go, and I (always) forget to write down how I did it, but I've been asked so many times for patterns that now I work with a hook in one hand and a pen in the other.
To give a sense to what I write ... well this is another story ...

Is mini making dangerous?

I was wondering it this morning.
I went food shopping and needed bitter chocolate for a cake I wanted to make this evening. As I'm allergic to wheat I have to read all the ingredients and alas, they where written in such a small font that I could not read them!
I had to put the chocolate box sooo far from my eyes to read it.
Am I getting old (!?) or is it mini making?
To be true it is since I started to make such small animals:

that I have to wear glasses!
When I attended the SIMP fair I had a magnifying on the table to allow people to take a closer look to my mini animals.
Why there's not a magnifying on supermarket shelves?

A few weeks ago the hard drive of my computer has collapsed!
This is a nightmare that you never think can happen to you too, well, so I thought.
The result is that I lost everything I had on it because (of course) I had no back up. All my pictures, files, patterns, e-mails, mailing list, connection ...... everything has gone!!
I've cried for quite a week!
Now I have to restart ... lesson learned!

Hooks, patterns and monkeys!

The most frequently question I've been asked is "how small is your hook ?" and when I say 0.5mm the answer is "ohhh". But if you see a picture of a 0.5mm the answer is "ohhhhhhhhhh"!!
It's like a little pin (and it hurts too like a pin!). Now, as I want to hear your "ohhhhhhhhhh", here is a picture of the hook and the thread I use when I make my minis:

I wrote a new pattern of a full jointed (5 ways) sock monkey, with movable limbs and head (it is on sale in my Etsy shop). Here is a picture of the little guy:

The sock monkey is made with Finca cotton thread but I always say that if you use a smaller hook and thread you'll make a smaller guy, so here are the pieces of the same sock monkey made with the same pattern but with a 0.5mm hook and sewing thread:

It's very small, isn't it?

Guinea Pigs!

I know, this is not the right season to work with wool yarn (here is very hot) but when the inspiration comes ...
I was asked to make a little guinea pig so I turned the cooler on and here is what I came up with:

They are funny and so addictive! Four ways jointed and poseables, and I also made little baskets or bags where they can sleep. I will sell some in my Etsy shop, as I had some inactive listings to use.

Did you know that Guinea Pigs have tails? You can't see it, but they do. Their "tail" is just a tail vertebrate, but I love to figure them with a little "hamster" tail, after all they're part of my Unusual Fantasy Funny Animals. Aren't they?

Picnic at 100 Akres Wood

Three friends are having a picnic at the 100 Akres wood.
The sun is shining and the food is yummy, let's sing together a happy song:

I don't much mind if it rains or snows,
'Cos I've got a lot of honey on my nice new nose!
I don't care if it snows or thaws,
'Cos I've got a lot of honey on my nice clean paws!

And I'll have a little something in an hour or two!

The three funny guys are crocheted with sewing thread and a 0.5mm hook. Pooh bear is 15mm tall, Piglet is 19mm tall and Eeyore is 10mm tall. They all are 5 ways thread jointed so they can move the head and the limbs, more fun in posing them!
They are having a picnic at the 100 Akres Wood between toadstools and butterflies eating some yummy food on a green gingham blanket.

I'm finally back from the Paris show SIMP!
I met such gifted miniaturist there and it was so nice to see in person people that I just knew on the web. Happy faces to add to a name!
Still have to show some works that will be soon on sale in my CDHM Gallery or in my Esty shop.
In a previous post I showed you a little Hello Kitty, well here is the quarter scale house I made just for her:

I bought the house on Ebay but it arrived broken! Someone at the custom must have opened the packet and let the house fall. So I decided to restyle it and make a new one for my little Kitty.
New wallpaper, new floor, new furniture, all the stuff on the shelves is removable (I used mini hold to stick it) and the micro box opens too .... everything in the Muffa style!

Sometimes ideas come in the strangest way! I made a very little terrarium and needed something to put inside it because it seemed "empty". As I usually work in the evening (well, I'd better say night) I went to sleep with that "little something" in mind and ... voilà I dreamt about gnomes and turtles! So here they are, made with polymer clay, the smallest gnomes (just 4mm tall):

I'm also doing some little furniture in a quarter scale, and she feels so comfy in it, with a little table and a teapot, to have a cup of tea with friends.

I LOVE mushrooms and in all my dioramas there are little mushrooms and butterflies too.
This time I made very small ones, just like the head of a pin.

I also made some to use as a chair, it is well known that fairies sit on mushrooms, isn't it?
I used wooden door knobs, paint, nail lacquer and of course butterflies:

I know! I promised to post every Friday on my Blog and ..... and!

But this is a rough period, I'll be at the SIMP (Salon International de la Maison de Poupée) in Paris next 21 June and I have sooo many things to finish and so few time to do them.

I will be posting every Friday on the CDHM Blog and, as I want to become a good girl, I'll try to post in my Blog too.
Here the Friday has already gone as it's late at night (or early Saturday morning), and as usual I'm late!
I'm in the fairy mood and here is what I've finished this evening, a little fairy bear just 25mm tall with silk wings, she's on sale in my Esty shop:

"Bracken Bell"
She is a cheerful sprite.
She lives in fields where wild flowers and poppies grow.
She is only seen when the bees swarm and the crickets chirrup on midsummer's eve.
She dresses in leafy bracken-green.
She has gentle green and yellow butterfly wings.
